Department of Otolaryngology

Undergraduate

The Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital’s Department of Otolorayngology is associated with all three medical schools in Dublin (Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Trinity College, Dublin and University College of Dublin).

There is an Undergraduate Teaching Programme for each of the three institutions (RCSI, TCD and UCD). The students attend lectures, and are in attendance at Outpatient Clinics and Theatre on a programmed basis.

Mr David Charles is one of the two Irish examiners on the Inter Collegiate Specialty Committee (covering Ireland and the UK) and also lectures for the RCSI.

There are two Chairs of Otololaryngology based at the Hospital: -

Conrad Timon

Professor Conrad Timon holds the Trinity College Dublin Chair in Otolaryngology (also linked with St James’s Hospital).

Professor Timon’s areas of speciality are Head and Neck Oncology, Thyroid Surgery, Minimally Invasive Head and Neck Surgery, Laryngology and Endoscopic Sinus Surgery.

Aongus Curran

Professor Aongus Curran holds the University College Dublin Chair in Otolaryngology (also linked with St Vincent’s University Hospital). Professor Curran’s areas of speciality are Head and Neck Oncology, Minimally Invasive Head and Neck Surgery and Thyroid Surgery.

Postgraduate

The Hospital is a recognised teaching centre for Basic Surgical Training (BST), Specialist Registrar and Senior Specialist Registrar in Otolaryngology.
