Billing Questions

Accident and Emergency Department

Patient will incur a charge of the Statutory Government Levy unless in attendance with a G.P. letter of referral.

In-patient

Patient will incur a charge of the Statutory Government Levy per day up to a maximum of 10 days in a 12 month period.

Semi Private

Patient will incur a charge of €713.00 per day.  Plus Statutory In-Patient Charge of €75 per day (to a max. of 10 days, i.e. €750).

Road Traffic Accident

Patient will incur a charge of the following:

  • €1884.00 per day Public
  • €2073.00 per day Semi-Private
  • €2280.00 per day
  • €1741.00 Day Case

If patient has a claim against a third party.

EU Members

EU Patients are charged in line with the above Hospital charges. There are no pre-planned admissions for patients from EU Countries Non Resident in Ireland.

Non EU Member

In-patients - will incur charges as below unless a Category ll Letter is presented:

  • €1884.00 per day Public
  • €2073.00 per day Semi-Private
  • €2280.00 per day
  • €1741.00 Day Case

The Patient will be advised to go to the Overseas Dept. at Dr. Stephens Hospital Dublin to apply for a Category ll Letter and to bring all relevant documentation with them.
On presentation of a Category ll Letter the charge will be reduced to the hospital rate that applies to the selected admission.

  • Accident and Emergency - patient will incur Statutory Accident and Emergency Levy charge
  • Out Patients Department - patients incur no charge

N.B. Payments must be made on discharge where the patient has no health insurance cover.

Private In-Patient

If you choose to be a private in-patient the following applies:

  • You will be accommodated in a designated private room. This is a one bed room and will be liable for maintenance fees and health charges.
  • You will incur a charge of €910.00 per day
  • Plus Statutory In-Patient Charge per day (max. 10 days)
  • You will be the private patient of a consultant and also of other consultants involved in your care (e.g. radiologists, pathologists, anaesthetists) and you will be liable for all consultants' fees, through your health insurance scheme or self payment.

In the case of a medical emergency you will be admitted immediately to Hospital and you will be accommodated in whatever bed is available and most appropriate for your care.

Semi-Private in-patient

If you choose to be a Semi-private in-patient the following applies:

  • You will be accommodated in a designated semi-private ward. This can be a two, three or four bed room depending on availability, and will be liable for maintenance fees and health charges.
  • You will incur a charge of €713 per day
  • Plus Statutory In-Patient Charge per day (max. 10 days)
  • You will be the private patient of a consultant and also of other consultants involved in your care (e.g. radiologists, pathologists, anaesthetists) and you will be liable for all consultants' fees, through your health insurance scheme.

In the case of a medical emergency you will be admitted immediately to Hospital and you will be accommodated in whatever bed is available and most appropriate for your care.

Day-care (Semi-Private)

Patient will incur a charge of €655.00 per day.  Plus Statutory In-Patient charge €75.

Private Health Insurance

Private and semi-orivate accommodation and treatment will be claimed from your insurance company by direct billing. Specific arrangements and types of fees covered are outlined by the individual insurance companies. Examples of these companies are:

VHI                             Plan P (applies to in-patient health charges only)

ESB Medical Provident Scheme
Prison Officers Association Scheme
Aviva

 
The Hospital operates a direct payment system with: VHI/Quinn/ Aviva and GMA
