Job Description
The Royal Victoria Eye & Ear Hospital is a voluntary specialist Hospital with over 400 staff and is the national tertiary centre for the treatment of Ophthalmic, Ear, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck disorders. The Hospital is recognised as a University Teaching Centre and has a tradition of care stretching back to 1814. The Hospital has provided care to patients in its current site since 1904.
ADVANCED NURSE PRACTITIONER CANDIDATE OPHTHALMIC
EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT – 1 WTE
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates who have a track record in the delivery of consistently high standards of care in a challenging, evolving environment and who will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, professional leadership and strategic planning.
The successful candidate will have a one-to-one partnership with an advanced nurse practitioner in Ophthalmology and a multidisciplinary team.
Essential Requirements:
• Be a registered nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland for which the application is being made.
• Have a broad base of clinical experience relevant to the advanced field of practice with a minimum of 3 years post registration nursing experience including a minimum of 2 years clinical experience in the specialist area of ophthalmic practice
• Hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Ophthalmic Nursing or equivalent.
• Be eligible to undertake a Master’s Degree (or higher) in Nursing or a Master’s Degree, which is relevant, or applicable, to the advanced field of practice. The Master’s programme must be at Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications (Quality & Qualifications Ireland), or equivalent. Nurse prescribing must be part of the Master’s Degree.
OR
• Hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Ophthalmic Nursing or equivalent and are currently undertaking a Master’s Degree in Nursing (Advanced Practice Pathway) or be eligible to register to undertake additional Level 9 National Framework of Qualifications (Quality and Qualifications Ireland) specific modules of a Master’s Degree in Nursing (Advanced Practice Pathway) within an agreed timeframe. Nurse prescribing must be part of the Master’s Degree.
OR
• Possess a Master’s Degree (or higher) in Nursing or a Master’s Degree which is relevant, or applicable, to the advanced field of practice. The Master’s programme must be at Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications (Quality & Qualifications Ireland), or equivalent. Educational preparation must include at least three modular components pertaining to the relevant area of advanced practice, in addition to clinical practicum.
• Hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Ophthalmic Nursing or equivalent.
• Be a registered and active Nurse Prescriber with NMBI or be willing to undertake the Nurse Prescribing course
• Evidence of continuing professional development
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Information technology skills to include proficiency in Word®, Excel®, and Power Point®
Desirable Requirements:
• Currently working in an ANP candidate post
