Referring to Outpatient Department
GPs can send ENT and Ophthalmology eReferrals through Healthlink, which is the HSE’s national messaging project. Using Healthlink means your practice does not have to worry about sending faxes or post.
For more information about Healthlink please see http://www.healthlink.ie.
If your practice is not connected to Healthlink, your OPD Referrals can be FAXED (01 678 5462) OR POSTED. Please do not give OPD referral letters to patients as they often inadvertently end up attending the A&E department.
If you have concerns regarding a patient you wish to refer or who is already attending the A&E department, please contact the Emergency G.P. Liaison Nurse who will provide you with a direct link to an A&E doctor if necessary.
The letter should be addressed to:
The Appointments Office
Outpatients Department
Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital
Adelaide Road
Dublin 2
Fax number: 01 678 5462
To aid in referral letter triage we have developed speciality specific referral letters. Using these or ensuring that the information contained in them is integrated into your own referral letter will help to ensure that letters are processed in a timely manner.
