A Statutory Government Levy of €80 per day applies to public patients unless they are listed below. This charge is payable for a maximum of 10 days in a 12 month period.

  • Medical Card holders.
  • Health (amendment) Act Cardholders (HAA Card) .
  • Children up to the age of six weeks.
  • Children referred for treatment from child health clinics and school health examinations.
  • Children suffering from prescribed diseases or disabilities (the exemption applies only to treatment for the prescribed condition) .
  • Persons deemed to be persons with full eligibility by a CEO under Section 45 (7) of the Health Act 1970, for the purpose of the services concerned.
  • Long-stay patients who are already being charged under the Health (Charges for In-Patient Services) Regulations 2005. .
  • Services provided in accordance with E.U Regulations.  

Private In-Patient.

If you choose to be a private in-patient the following applies:

  • You will be accommodated in a designated private room if available. This is a one bedded room and will be liable for maintenance fees and health charges.
  • You will incur a charge of €1000.00 per day.
  • You will be the private patient of a consultant and also of other consultants involved in your care (e.g. radiologists, pathologists, anaesthetists) and you will be liable for all consultants' fees, through your health insurance scheme or self-payment.
  • In the case of a medical emergency you will be admitted immediately to Hospital and you will be accommodated in whatever bed is available and most appropriate for your care. You will incur a charge of €1000.00 per day.

Semi-Private in-patient.

If you choose to be a Semi-private in-patient the following applies:

  • You will be accommodated in a designated semi-private ward. Four or ten bedded room depending on availability and will be liable for maintenance fees and health charges.
  • You will incur a charge of €813 per day.
  • You will be the private patient of a consultant and also of other consultants involved in your care (e.g. radiologists, pathologists, anaesthetists) and you will be liable for all consultants' fees, through your health insurance scheme.
  • In the case of a medical emergency you will be admitted immediately to Hospital and you will be accommodated in whatever bed is available and most appropriate for your care. You will incur a charge of €813.00 per day in a multi-occupancy room.

Day-care (Semi-Private).

Patient will incur a charge of €407 per day.

Payment is due on discharge unless you have valid Private Health Insurance.

Private Health Insurance.

Private and semi-private accommodation and treatment will be claimed from your insurance company by direct billing. Specific arrangements and types of fees covered are outlined by the individual insurance companies. Examples of these companies are:
VHI, Laya Healthcare, Aviva Healthcare, ESB, GMA and P.O.M.A.S.

Please note it is the patient's responsibility to verify with their health insurance company if their hospital bills will be honoured.

Should the private health insurance policy not cover the chosen accommodation or reject a claim the patient is liable for all outstanding hospital charges.

EU and Non EU Members

EU Patients are charged in line with the above Hospital charges. There are no pre-planned admissions for nonresidents in the republic of Ireland unless a valid E112 form is presented.

Non EU members will incur the following charges unless they can provide copies of the 2 previous years P60 forms (Certificate of pay, tax and pay-related social insurance)or valid proof of residence (valid visa). With provision of residential proof, normal resident rates apply as above.

§  Private per day €2800.00

§  Semi-private per day €2550.00

§  Public per day €2325.00

§  Day case €2145.00

Account must be paid on admission.

Out Patients Department : Patients incur no charge

 

Accident and Emergency Department

Patient will incur a charge of the Statutory Government Levy unless in attendance with a G.P. letter of referral. Payment of this levy will be required upon attendance at the Accident and Emergency Department. An Opticians referral letter does not exempt Patients from the Levy.

Exemptions are made upon presentation of the following;

  • Valid Medical Card.
  • G.P. Referral Letter.
  • Health Amendment Act Card (Ophthalmology Only).
  • Proof of serving member of the Irish Defence Forces (incl. Next of Kin).
  • European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)(Only applies to Non-Irish European Union members)
  • Hospital Letter

 

PLEASE NOTE * Presentation of private health insurance or an optician referral letter are not accepted for exemption of the statutory government levy of €100.

Statutory Levy is waived for scheduled follow-up or return to service within 1 year of initial payment. (Please note: the EYE A&E department and the ENT A&E department are two separate clinics and will be charged separately.)

 

Collection of Monies Owed by Patients:

Patient Income forms part of the Hosptal's core funding. As such the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital activly collects all monies due from patients. It is Hospital policy to take all available steps to collect unpaid debts, including payment by installment. In the case of non-payment the hospital reserves the right to engage external debt recovery agencies and in some situations the Hospital may seek a legal remedy to unpaid debts.
